Board Appoints LD-26 Senator

Capitol

Phoenix - The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors has filled the open seat in the State Senate.  Supervisors appointed Rep. Flavio Bravo to fill the Senate vacancy in Legislative District 26 vacated when Raquel Terán resigned in April.

Bravo currently represents District 26 in the Arizona House of Representatives.

Legislative District 26 covers a portion of West Phoenix and part of Glendale. It starts at 19th Avenue west to 51st Avenue, and from Van Buran Street in the south to Peoria Avenue in the north. It’s part of Supervisorial District 5, represented by Supervisor Steve Gallardo.

As required by law, the Board selected Bravo from a list of three candidates submitted by the Legislative District 26 Precinct Committeemen (PC).  The candidates had to live in the district and be a member of the same party as the person who vacated the office.  In this case, a Democrat.

“I would like to thank the PC’s from District 26 for selecting three qualified candidates for our consideration,” said Supervisor Steve Gallardo. “It was a difficult decision because I respect all three of these community leaders.  Flavio Bravo knows this district well and will represent it vigorously in the Senate."

Bravo will serve through 2024. The next election for seats in the Arizona Senate will be the 2024 General Election.
