The Maricopa County Air Quality Department is governed by the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors and follows air quality standards set forth by the federal Clean Air Act. The Air Quality department has statutory authority per Title 49 of the Arizona Revised Statutes for air quality rulemaking and received direct delegation/authority from the Environmental Protection Agency for certain air quality programs.
The Planning and Analysis Division within the Air Quality Department is responsible for drafting and amending air pollution control rules and ordinances. Rules and ordinances are created and revised to comply with the Clean Air Act and to implement control strategies for stationary sources in Maricopa County.
The Department actively solicits the involvement of all interested parties throughout the rule development process, and encourages your participation by holding public workshops, oral proceedings, and public hearings.
