About Drainage Design Management System for Windows 4.6.0


Drainage Design Management System for Windows (DDMSW) is a pre-processing tool for HEC-1 model. The other features include Rational method and River Mechanics (scour, sediment yield, and riprap sizing).

HEC-1 Modeling


For HEC-1 modeling, DDMSW prepares an HEC-1 input file. It allows users to set up a schematic tree. DDMSW computes the required parameters for HEC-1 input file based on:
  • Clark Unit Hydrograph
  • Green-Ampt Rainfall Loss Method
  • Kinematic Wave Routing
  • Muskingum-Cunge Routing
  • NOAA14 Rainfall
  • NOAA2 Rainfall
  • Normal Depth Routing
  • S-Graph Unit Hydrograph
  • Uniform Rainfall Loss Method
These are based on Maricopa County Drainage Design Manual (Volume I, Hydrology) by FCDMC (2011).

GIS Shape Files


GIS shape files for watershed, land use, and soil types can be imported into DDMSW to prepare rainfall data and Green-Ampt rainfall loss method parameters. DDMSW runs HEC-1 and imports results back to DDMSW from HEC-1 and shows results in both tabular and graphic formats.

Rational Modeling


For Rational modeling, DDMSW allows users to set up a schematic tree. DDMSW computes the required parameters for Rational method. There is no peak attenuation for reach routing. The storage routing is not in this version (version 4.6.0). GIS shape files for sub-basins, land use, and time of concentration can be imported into DDMSW to prepare rainfall data and Rational method parameters.

River Mechanics


For River Mechanics, DDMSW computes scour depth, sediment yield, and riprap sizing based on Maricopa County Drainage Design Manual (Volume II, Hydraulics) by FCDMC (2011). GIS shape files for watershed, land use, and soil types can be imported into DDMSW to compute the parameters for sediment yield. The required hydraulic parameters are computed by normal depth method within DDMSW.

New Features of DDMSW 4.6.0


In this version of DDMSW the new River Mechanics module is integrated into the program. This new module allows the users to calculate scour depth, sediment yield, and riprap sizing.

This version of DDMSW also includes a full network rational method module, which gives the option to build the full network, and also has the capability to handle conveyance facility.

XKSAT adjustment threshold for the sand and loamy sand has been corrected to 1.2 in/hr.

The XKSAT values that correspond to Gila Bend-Ajo area (NRCS Soil Book 653) have been modified by FCDMC (2004). The modified XKSAT values inside FCDMC's NRCS soil shape file have been updated based on FCDMC (2004). These new values are incorporated into this version of DDMSW.

MCUHP1, an internal program used in DDMSW to calculate Tc and R, has been recompiled with a 32 bit compiler, which allows the DDMSW to run under computers with 64 bit operating systems like Windows 7.
